RELIGION & PHILOSOPHY
Karate direct meaning is empty hand.
Father of modern Karate "Master Funakoshi Gichin" wrote
following stuff in his book
"KARATE-DO My Way of Life".
----For one thing, it symbolizes the obvious fact that this art of self-defense makes
use of no weapons, only bare feet and empty hands. Further, student of Karate-do
aim not only toward perfecting their chosen art but also toward emptying heart and
mind of all earthly desire and vanity. Reading Buddhist scriptures, we come across
such statement as "Shiki-soku-ze-ku" and "Ku-soku-ze-shiki", which literally mean,
"matter is void" and "all is vanity".---
And I say.
Karate-Do is the way of life. I try to be better person by help of karate.
Karate is not only inside of dojo but it appear for everything. Karate for everything
and everything for Karate. Karate will connect to one's deep inside of soul.
It dose not matter who you are. You may be student, business man, police man,
man, woman, young, old, healthy, handicapped...etc.
Karate will appear one's everyday life..... Eat, sleep, sit, walk, job, friendship, love,
argument, angry, happiness, sadness...etc. It could work for your movement, endurance,
respectation, controlling your emotion, breathing...etc.
And all those life will came back to your karate.
Once you learn the Karate, Karate will always be with you.
Let Karate always be with you !!
One day I run for practice. My running course have city street, bike root side of river and lake.
At lake I can see the mountain far away. I see many kind of birds, and sometimes fish jumping.
I do kata at this place. I feel the sun, moon, star, winds, cloud, water, tree, mountain, birds, fish, tree, etc..
I see the nature around me and I do kata with them, They do Kata with me.
Today I am a better person than I was yesterday.
Tomorrow I will be a better person than I am today.
"Today I am a wiser man than I was yesterday. I am a human being, and a human
being is a vulnerable creature, who cannot possibly be perfect. After he dies, he returns
to the elements---to earth, to water, to fire, to wind, to air. Matter is void. All is vanity.
We are like blades of grass or trees of the forest, creations of the universe, of the spirit
of the univrtse, and the spirit of the universe has neither life nor death.
Vanity is the only obstacle to life."

THE MEANIMG OF OBON
Obon originally started in the spirit of profound
religious feeling of love, respect, and gratitude toward
the Buddha and to the departed loved ones who have
either directly or indirectly bestowed their guidance
upon our growth as an individual. It is a time of
appreciation for all they have done and have meant to
us. Thus Obon is essentially a memorial service
honoring the memory of the deceased; however, that
is as far as it goes in coinciding with other memorial
services.
Instead of being a solemn occasion, a festive mood
pervades the entire gathering. Although the sense of
loss of our loved ones is strong in our hearts, our faith
in Amida Buddha's Wisdom and Compassion is even
greater, and the prevailing theme is the joy in the
salvation from suffering, offered by having faith in
Amida Buddha.
ORIGIN OF BON ODORI (OBON DANCING)
Obon dancing is based upon a story, well-known to
Buddhists, of Moggallana, one of the Buddha's chief
disciples, who along with other disciples and
followers, began to dance with joy when he realized
that due to the Buddha's advice and compassion, his
mother had been freed from the pains and sufferings
of hell. This, combined with the traditional Japanese
v9illage dancing, has resulted in the current-day Obon
dancing in Japan, and thus transplanted here in the
United States, undergoing further transformation, to
what it is today.
